Product Description for Incoloy 800H Round Bar
Incoloy 800H Round Bar is made from a nickel-iron-chromium alloy, UNS N08810, known in Europe as 1.4958 (X5NiCrAlTi31-20). Bars are supplied to ASTM B408 and ASME SB408. Incoloy is a trademark of Special Metals.
The alloy is a controlled version of Alloy 800 with higher carbon, a solution anneal at high temperature and a coarse grain size of ASTM 5 or coarser. These features give high creep and rupture strength above about 600°C.
The alloy has good resistance to oxidation, carburisation and sulfidation at high temperature, and good structural stability in long service.
Bars are supplied solution annealed, hot finished or cold finished, and turned or ground. The alloy is non-magnetic.
Common applications include petrochemical furnace parts, ethylene and steam methane reformer parts, pigtails and headers, heat exchangers, superheater and reheater parts, and industrial furnace fixtures. It is approved in the ASME code for high-temperature pressure service. The grade exists because standard Alloy 800 does not have enough creep strength for long service above about 600°C. By controlling carbon, raising the annealing temperature and requiring a coarse grain, producers give 800H much higher rupture strength while keeping the same good resistance to oxidation and carburisation. In refineries and petrochemical plants, 800H is the default material for many hot pigtails, manifolds and outlet headers, and bar is used for fittings, supports and fasteners connected to them. It is also used in industrial furnace hardware where parts must carry load for years at high temperature. Bars can be supplied cut to length and dual certified with 800HT.
Common Applications of Incoloy 800H Round Bar
➡️ Machined shafts, spindles, valve stems, pump sleeves and pins for food, beverage, dairy and pharmaceutical equipment, where the passive chromium oxide film resists both product acids and caustic clean-in-place chemicals.
➡️ Fasteners, studs, bolts, threaded rod and anchor components produced from bar stock, chosen for corrosion resistance combined with the ductility needed for cold heading and thread rolling.
➡️ Chemical, water treatment and general process plant parts such as agitator shafts, flange blanks, nozzles and support components handling water, steam and mildly corrosive media free of significant chlorides.
➡️ Architectural and structural hardware including handrail stanchions, balustrade fittings, tension rods and bollards, where a bright ground or polished bar finish provides both appearance and low maintenance.

Technical Specifications
Get the key technical specifications for Incoloy 800H Round Bar
Incoloy 800H Round Bar is supplied to ASTM B408, with ASME SB408 for pressure equipment. The alloy must be solution annealed, usually at about 1150–1200°C, and have a grain size of ASTM 5 or coarser.
The coarse grain and controlled chemistry give high creep and rupture strength, which is the reason to choose this grade over standard Alloy 800.
Physical data for 800H are reference values used in thermal design. Tolerances follow ASTM B408.
Testing includes chemical analysis, tensile, grain size and dimensional checks, with UT, PMI and third-party inspection on request.
ASTM B408 requires 800H to be annealed at a minimum of about 1121°C, and the grain size check is part of acceptance, so ask for the grain size result on every certificate. Many mills supply dual-certified 800H/800HT bar. Triple certification with standard Alloy 800 is rarely possible, because coarse-grained 800H does not meet the higher yield strength required for Alloy 800. For European projects, 1.4958 to EN 10302 is the matching grade. The ASME code gives allowable stresses for 800H at temperatures up to about 900°C, which makes it a common pressure-part material in reformer and ethylene furnaces. Bars used for welded fittings should be ordered with the filler metal and welding procedure in mind.

Chemical Composition
View the chemical composition and applicable material limits for Incoloy 800H Round Bar
The table shows the ASTM B408 limits for UNS N08810.
Nickel at 30–35% gives a stable austenitic structure and resistance to chloride stress corrosion and carburisation. Chromium at 19–23% gives oxidation resistance.
Carbon at 0.05–0.10% supports creep strength by forming carbides. Aluminium and titanium are controlled to form fine precipitates that add creep strength.
Iron forms most of the balance. Residuals are limited. Carbon at 0.05–0.10% is the key difference from standard Alloy 800, where carbon is only limited to 0.10% maximum. The minimum of 0.05% ensures enough carbides form at grain boundaries during service to resist creep. Aluminium and titanium at 0.15–0.60% each add fine precipitates, and their combined level affects both creep strength and ductility over time. Nickel at 30–35% makes the alloy fully austenitic and resistant to carburisation and chloride stress corrosion cracking. Chromium at 19–23% forms the oxide scale that protects the alloy in hot gases. Iron makes up the rest, at least 39.5%, which keeps cost lower than in high-nickel alloys.
Manganese up to 1.50% and silicon up to 1.00% help deoxidise the melt. Copper is held to 0.75% and sulfur to 0.015% to protect hot ductility and weld quality.

Mechanical Properties
Check the key mechanical properties and performance requirements of Incoloy 800H Round Bar
The values shown are ASTM B408 minimum requirements for UNS N08810 in the solution annealed condition.
Room-temperature strength is moderate. The main advantage is high creep and rupture strength above about 600°C, which should be taken from ASME code tables.
Confirm grain size and results on the mill certificate. ASTM B408 requires solution annealed 800H bar to reach tensile strength of at least 450 MPa, yield strength of at least 170 MPa and elongation of at least 30%, with a grain size of ASTM 5 or coarser. These room-temperature values are lower than for standard Alloy 800, because the coarse grain reduces yield strength. The benefit comes at high temperature, where the coarse grain and controlled carbon give much better creep and rupture strength. For pressure parts, use ASME allowable stresses. After long service at about 540–760°C, some loss of ductility is normal, and this should be considered when parts are repaired or re-welded during turnarounds.
Hardness is not a specified acceptance value in ASTM B408, but it is a useful check that the bar has been fully annealed. Elevated-temperature tensile tests can be ordered for design verification.
