Product Description for Hastelloy C-2000 Round Bar

Hastelloy C-2000 Round Bar is made from nickel-chromium-molybdenum-copper alloy UNS N06200, listed in Europe as 2.4675 (NiCr23Mo16Cu). C-2000 bar is ordered to ASTM B574 or ASME SB574 and delivered solution annealed.

Most Ni-Cr-Mo alloys are a trade-off. More chromium helps in oxidising acids such as nitric or ferric-bearing solutions, while more molybdenum helps in reducing acids such as hydrochloric or dilute sulfuric acid. C-2000 was designed in the 1990s to push both at once, with about 23% chromium and 16% molybdenum, and then add about 1.6% copper to lift performance in sulfuric and hydrofluoric acid.

This makes it useful where one piece of equipment must handle several processes. Multi-product reactors in fine chemical and pharmaceutical plants can switch between acid types, solvents and oxidisers. A single alloy that tolerates the whole range cuts the risk of failure when a new recipe is run.

C-2000 also has very high resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion and chloride stress corrosion cracking. Its low carbon and silicon allow welded parts to be used without post-weld heat treatment.

Bar is non-magnetic and supplied turned, peeled or ground, cut to length, with EN 10204 3.1 certification. It is used for agitator shafts, impellers, pump and valve parts, bolting, spray nozzles and fittings in chemical, pharmaceutical, agrochemical and acid handling plants.

C-2000 is also used where process streams switch between oxidising and reducing states, such as batch reactors that run different chemicals in turn. One alloy can then replace several, which simplifies spare-parts stock and welding procedures across a plant. Bar made to UNS N06200 can be sourced from more than one mill if the chemistry and tests meet ASTM B574.

Common Applications of Hastelloy C-2000 Round Bar

➡️ Machined shafts, spindles, valve stems, pump sleeves and pins for food, beverage, dairy and pharmaceutical equipment, where the passive chromium oxide film resists both product acids and caustic clean-in-place chemicals.

➡️ Fasteners, studs, bolts, threaded rod and anchor components produced from bar stock, chosen for corrosion resistance combined with the ductility needed for cold heading and thread rolling.

➡️ Chemical, water treatment and general process plant parts such as agitator shafts, flange blanks, nozzles and support components handling water, steam and mildly corrosive media free of significant chlorides.

➡️ Architectural and structural hardware including handrail stanchions, balustrade fittings, tension rods and bollards, where a bright ground or polished bar finish provides both appearance and low maintenance.

ASTM B574 covers rod in UNS N06200, and ASME SB574 is used for code pressure parts. Allowable stresses for design are listed in ASME Section II-D.

The delivery condition is solution annealed, normally at about 1150°C, followed by rapid cooling. This keeps copper and molybdenum fully in solution and gives the best corrosion resistance. Fabricators who hot form parts should apply the same anneal afterwards.

Density is about 8.5 g/cm³. The physical values in the table, such as thermal conductivity, expansion and electrical resistivity, are producer reference data.

Standard testing covers heat chemistry, tension tests and dimensions. Because C-2000 is often chosen for demanding, variable service, buyers frequently add an ASTM G28 Method A intergranular corrosion test, PMI on each bar and ultrasonic testing for shafts. Some pharmaceutical users also specify surface roughness limits on ground bar for cleanability.

The same C-2000 bar can be certified to both ASTM B574 and ASME SB574 on one document. Cold-finished bar is supplied to close diameter limits for shafts, while hot-finished bar carries a machining allowance. Heavy sections are forged, then turned or peeled to size before shipment.

Chemical Composition

View the chemical composition and applicable material limits for Alloy C-2000 Round Bar

The composition table shows ASTM B574 limits for UNS N06200. Chromium at 22.0–24.0% is higher than in C-276 and forms a strong protective oxide in oxidising acids and media containing ferric or cupric ions.

Molybdenum at 15.0–17.0% keeps resistance to reducing acids and to pitting and crevice attack. Holding molybdenum this high alongside 23% chromium is only possible because carbon and silicon are kept very low and the melt is carefully controlled, which avoids the formation of brittle phases.

Copper at 1.3–1.9% is the feature that sets C-2000 apart. In sulfuric acid, especially at mid concentrations and moderate temperatures, copper helps the surface form a more protective layer, lowering corrosion rates well below alloys without copper. It also helps in hydrofluoric acid.

Carbon at 0.010% maximum and silicon at 0.08% maximum protect weld zones. Iron is limited to 3.0% and cobalt to 2.0%. Aluminium, manganese, phosphorus and sulfur are controlled as minor elements.

The certificate should show copper within range, since this confirms the grade.

Carbon is held at 0.010% maximum and silicon at 0.08% maximum, which limits precipitation in the weld heat-affected zone.

Mechanical Properties

Check the key mechanical properties and performance requirements of Alloy C-2000 Round Bar

ASTM B574 requires solution annealed N06200 bar to reach at least 690 MPa tensile strength, 310 MPa yield strength and 45% elongation. The elongation minimum is higher than for most other C-family alloys, reflecting the ductility of the alloy.

This ductility helps in fabrication. C-2000 can be cold formed and swaged well, and it handles thread rolling for bolting. Cold work raises strength and hardness, and heavily worked parts may need a solution anneal if full corrosion resistance is required.

The alloy work hardens during machining. Use sharp carbide tools, positive rake, rigid setups and continuous cuts to avoid rubbing. Flood coolant helps control heat.

C-2000 is not used as a high-temperature structural alloy. For pressure design at elevated temperature, take allowable stresses from ASME Section II-D. Tensile results for each heat are reported on the EN 10204 3.1 certificate, and yield strength should be checked against the 310 MPa minimum.

C-2000 work-hardens during cold forming and machining. Heavy cold work raises strength but can lower corrosion resistance, so heavily formed parts may need a fresh solution anneal. ASME allows N06200 in code design up to about 425°C.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you should be aware of regarding Hastelloy C-2000 Round Bar from the grade and standards internationally, to the available sizes and finishes, requirements for manufacturing and application. This section will help buyers examine specifications and options for supply prior to making an inquiry or requesting a quote.
It is solid bar in UNS N06200, a nickel alloy with about 23% chromium, 16% molybdenum and 1.6% copper. It is delivered solution annealed under ASTM B574. It is designed to handle both oxidising and reducing acids, so it suits plants where process chemistry changes. Bar is used for shafts, valve parts, fasteners and fittings.
Choose C2000 when the process switches between oxidising and reducing acids, or includes sulfuric acid with oxidising impurities, because its higher chromium and added copper cover both sides. Choose C-276 when a code history, stock availability or an existing procedure favours it. C276 has longer service records and is stocked in more sizes.
Copper at 1.3–1.9% improves resistance to sulfuric acid and hydrofluoric acid. In these acids, copper helps the surface form a protective layer and lowers corrosion rates compared with copper-free Ni-Cr-Mo alloys. The copper does this without reducing resistance to oxidising media, because the alloy also has high chromium. Chromium then handles the oxidising side.
Use TIG or MIG with matching ERNiCrMo-17 filler, low heat input, stringer beads and interpass temperature below about 95°C. Joints must be cleaned of oil, paint and marking ink. Welds are normally used as-welded without post-weld heat treatment. If the part has been hot formed, a solution anneal at about 1150°C restores full properties.
It is less widely stocked than C276, so some bar sizes have longer lead times. It is not designed for high-temperature strength or oxidation service. In hot, concentrated hydrochloric acid, a nickel-molybdenum alloy such as B-3 gives better resistance, provided no oxidisers are present. It is not meant for high-temperature oxidation service either.
Round bar is covered by ASTM B574 and ASME SB574 under UNS N06200. The European material number is 2.4675. Allowable stresses are listed in ASME Section II-D. Purchase orders should give the specification edition, bar size, tolerance, surface finish and certificate type, usually EN 10204 3.1. ASME Section II-D lists its allowable stresses.
Yes. Bar can be centreless ground and polished to a low surface roughness, which is often requested for pharmaceutical and food-related equipment where easy cleaning matters. The required Ra value should be stated on the order. Bars can also be cut to length and chamfered to suit machining lines. Roughness can be stated on the order.
