Product Description for Titanium Grade 7 Round Bar
Titanium Grade 7 Round Bar is commercially pure titanium with 0.12–0.25% palladium, designated UNS R52400 and 3.7235. It is supplied to ASTM B348, with ASME SB348 for pressure equipment.
The base metal is Grade 2, so strength, ductility and weldability are the same. What changes is corrosion behaviour. Plain titanium relies on its oxide film, which can break down in hot, reducing or oxygen-starved conditions. The palladium addition helps the film stay in place.
Bars are supplied annealed and can be descaled, turned or ground. The metal is non-magnetic and light. Grade 7 is the benchmark palladium titanium. The small palladium content shifts the corrosion potential of titanium into its passive range in acids where Grade 2 would corrode, such as dilute hydrochloric and sulfuric acid at moderate temperature. It also resists crevice corrosion in hot chloride brines at temperatures where Grade 2 is at risk. Because palladium is expensive, lower-palladium Grade 16 and ruthenium-bearing Grade 26 were developed as cheaper options, but Grade 7 remains the reference grade for the most demanding reducing conditions. Chlor-alkali plants, chlorate cells, brine heaters and organic acid units are common users. Bar is machined into pump shafts, agitator parts, valve stems, flanges and bolts, and is often ordered alongside Grade 7 tube and plate for the same unit. Because titanium is light, Grade 7 fasteners also reduce weight on large equipment covers. It is widely stocked in the diameters used for fasteners and pump shafts. Cut pieces can be supplied with full traceability.
Common Applications of Titanium Grade 7 Round Bar
➡️ Machined shafts, spindles, valve stems, pump sleeves and pins for food, beverage, dairy and pharmaceutical equipment, where the passive chromium oxide film resists both product acids and caustic clean-in-place chemicals.
➡️ Fasteners, studs, bolts, threaded rod and anchor components produced from bar stock, chosen for corrosion resistance combined with the ductility needed for cold heading and thread rolling.
➡️ Chemical, water treatment and general process plant parts such as agitator shafts, flange blanks, nozzles and support components handling water, steam and mildly corrosive media free of significant chlorides.
➡️ Architectural and structural hardware including handrail stanchions, balustrade fittings, tension rods and bollards, where a bright ground or polished bar finish provides both appearance and low maintenance.

Titanium Grade 7 Round Bar is ordered as UNS R52400 to ASTM B348, which sets chemistry, tensile properties and tolerances for annealed bar.
Annealing is carried out at about 650–760°C. Test reports should cover chemistry including palladium and the interstitial elements, tensile tests and dimensions.
For pressure equipment, ASME SB348 and the matching ASME code allowable stresses apply, which are the same as for Grade 2 because the strength is the same. Bar is used mainly for flanges, fasteners, valve stems, pump shafts and fittings that match Grade 7 tube, plate and pipe in the same plant. Buyers should check that the certificate shows the palladium content, because a bar without palladium looks and machines exactly like Grade 2. Positive material identification by XRF can confirm palladium on received bar. If the design allows, Grade 16 or Grade 26 can be quoted as lower-cost options, but they must be approved by the end user.
Diameter and length tolerances follow ASTM B348 tables, or tighter limits can be agreed for ground bar. For large bars, ultrasonic testing can be added. When parts are welded to Grade 7 plate or tube, specify matching filler and weld procedure qualification on the same grade.

View the chemical composition and applicable material limits for Ti Grade 7 Round Bar
The table shows the ASTM B348 limits for Grade 7. The interstitial limits match Grade 2: oxygen at 0.25% maximum and iron at 0.30% maximum, which set the strength level. Nitrogen at 0.03%, carbon at 0.08% and hydrogen at 0.015% are limited to protect ductility and prevent hydride embrittlement. Palladium at 0.12–0.25% does not change the strength. It works by speeding up the hydrogen reaction at the metal surface, which keeps the titanium in its protective passive state in acids that would otherwise attack it. Even small amounts are effective, which is why Grade 16 with about 0.05% palladium also gives useful protection, though with a narrower safety margin than Grade 7.
Residual elements are capped at 0.1% each and 0.4% in total, and titanium makes up about 99% of the metal. The certificate value for palladium should sit inside 0.12–0.25%, because a heat below the range may not give full protection in reducing acids. Iron smeared onto the surface during machining can also reduce corrosion resistance locally, so tools used on steel should be cleaned first. The palladium level is checked on every heat.

Mechanical Properties
Check the key mechanical properties and performance requirements of Ti Grade 7 Round Bar
The table gives the ASTM B348 tensile, yield range, elongation and reduction of area requirements for annealed Grade 7. ASTM B348 requires Grade 7 bar to reach tensile strength of at least 345 MPa, yield strength of 275–450 MPa, elongation of at least 20% and reduction of area of at least 30%. These are the same as for Grade 2, so design stresses for Grade 2 can be used. The yield range has both a minimum and a maximum, which keeps the metal ductile enough for forming and welding. Grade 7 keeps good toughness at low temperature. Its strength falls as temperature rises, and the ASME code gives allowable stresses up to about 315°C. For higher strength with palladium, Grade 24 (Ti-6Al-4V-Pd) can be used.
Because Grade 7 cannot be hardened, its strength is set by oxygen and iron alone, and any strength gained by cold work is lost if the part is annealed after forming. For stronger palladium or ruthenium grades, Grade 24 (Ti-6Al-4V-Pd) or Grade 29 (Ti-6Al-4V ELI-Ru) are options, though they cost more and are harder to form.
Fatigue strength in seawater and brines stays close to that in air, which suits pump shafts and agitators. Hardness is not an ASTM B348 acceptance value, but a quick hardness check can help spot mixed stock.
